The Punkt. AC02: made in Japan.
“The future of manufacturing is Japanese.”
Yusuke Nagatani, Rhythm.
The AC02 launched at the London Design Festival in 2022, succeeding the AC01. The differences between the two products, designed by Jasper Morrison, are subtle to the naked eye. The most significant change, however, that breaks ground for Punkt. is not a design feature but a manufacturing one. The AC02 is made in Japan and hand-assembled in Ibaraki by one of the country’s leading clockmakers.
It is well-known that precision and quality are deeply rooted in Japanese culture, and the pursuit of perfection and mastery of craft makes ‘Made in Japan’ so famous worldwide. Punkt. wanted a level of manufacturing quality equal to the quality of the materials used to make the AC02. So, the clocks are made in Ibaraki, where they are hand-assembled individually for Punkt.
We had some photographs taken in Ibaraki, where a primarily female workforce meticulously and intricately builds the AC02s for Punkt. one-by-one.
